About midnight that night I woke up to what I think was the sound of a tree falling into our house. There was such a bad storm going on. The wind was going like crazy and lightening and thunder. The sirens weren't going off, so I debated for awhile, but I was pretty scared as I saw all the branches down in the street. So, I got the boys out of bed and we hung out in the bathroom for awhile. I usually don't get nervous about storms, but this one kind of had me freaked out. It didn't help that I was here by myself since Ben was still in KC. They say the straight line winds were 70-80 miles an hour. There were trees down all over town, plus quite a bit of damage to signs and buildings. We were lucky. Our house was fine, but we sure had some clean up to do. The city is supposed to come pick up the brush, but we currently still have a big pile of tree in our front yard.
This is a view up our street the morning after the storm. The city had moved all the branches to the side to clear the street.
These next two are of our backyard.
I saw this next one as I was walking around town to look at the damage the next day. The tree was uprooted and laid over on the house. I've never seen anything like it and there were examples like this all over town.

Thank goodness my parents just happened to be coming to visit the day after the storm. My Dad and I (with some good help from Ethan!) were able clean out our yard without too much trouble while my Mom watched Wyatt inside. I don't know what I would have done without them!
