OH, What a Night...

We had a crazy, crazy night last week and I'm just now getting around to writing about it.
Let's start at the beginning....On Saturday evening Ben went fishing and got a lot (like 100+) bug bites on his legs. He was itching like crazy for a day or two and finally asked for a couple steroid shots on Monday while he was at work just to relieve some of the itch.
Now onto our adventure--That night we put the kids to bed, as usual. Ethan woke up at 10:00 crying. We went to checking on him and he was throwing up in bed. So, we get him all cleaned up, changed clothes, sheets, etc. and put him back to bed. About half an hour later he woke up again--same story. So by 11:00, he's back in bed and Ben and I lay down to sleep, as well.
Ben then wakes up itching at midnight and comes out to the living room for a couple minutes. He soon realizes that something is wrong. He comes into our bathroom and turns on the light, which wakes me up. He is bright red and has hives all over his body. He's itching so badly, he can hardly stand it. We were trying to discuss what he should do about it, when he decides that he is having some trouble breathing. I'm a little worried at this point and I told him that we can't really rush to the hospital with two little boys in the middle of the night, so maybe he should go sit up there with someone in case he needed help. So, at 1am he calls up our friend Erick and has him come pick him up and take him to the hospital. He proceeds to give himself a breathing treatment there and then decides that he's actually having an anaphylactic reaction (life threatening allergic reaction) and cannot stand it any longer. The itching was just too much to handle. They walk over to the ER and he gets a shot of epinephrine, an antihistamine, and more steroid. This whole time, I'm back at home kind of freaking out because I have no idea what's going on and, of course, I'm imagining the worst. Luckily he comes back home an hour later at 2am. He was so much better, except for the fact that he couldn't sleep due to the epinephrine. The next day his hives and bug bites were 100% better and everything was back to normal for him (besides being totally exhausted!) Ethan did get sick two more times the next morning, but at least he made it through the night.
When it rains, it pours! Seriously...what a night! Let's hope we never have one like that again.

PS...A big THANK YOU to Erick for losing sleep and taking care of my hubby!
PPS...Ben says next time he goes fishing, he's going to tuck his jeans into his boots and wear some major bug spray!

Storm Pictures

I realized the other day that I never posted pictures from the big storm that came through Kirksville. It happened just a few days before Wyatt's birthday and I had so many fun pictures to look at, that I forgot all about these.
About midnight that night I woke up to what I think was the sound of a tree falling into our house. There was such a bad storm going on. The wind was going like crazy and lightening and thunder. The sirens weren't going off, so I debated for awhile, but I was pretty scared as I saw all the branches down in the street. So, I got the boys out of bed and we hung out in the bathroom for awhile. I usually don't get nervous about storms, but this one kind of had me freaked out. It didn't help that I was here by myself since Ben was still in KC. They say the straight line winds were 70-80 miles an hour. There were trees down all over town, plus quite a bit of damage to signs and buildings. We were lucky. Our house was fine, but we sure had some clean up to do. The city is supposed to come pick up the brush, but we currently still have a big pile of tree in our front yard.
This is a view up our street the morning after the storm. The city had moved all the branches to the side to clear the street.

These next two are of our backyard.

I saw this next one as I was walking around town to look at the damage the next day. The tree was uprooted and laid over on the house. I've never seen anything like it and there were examples like this all over town.

Thank goodness my parents just happened to be coming to visit the day after the storm. My Dad and I (with some good help from Ethan!) were able clean out our yard without too much trouble while my Mom watched Wyatt inside. I don't know what I would have done without them!

Blueberry Farm

Today we all went out to a local farm to pick some blueberries. It was so much fun. Ethan loved picking the blueberries and Wyatt taste tested the entire time!

Wyatt was so worn out he fell asleep about a minute after we got into the car!

Family Fun

This week was full of family and lots of fun. Both sets of grandparents came to visit to help us celebrate Wyatt's birthday. The boys got so spoiled and loved every second of it!
